Backflow testing in Kenmore — Northshore Utility District

Kenmore’s water comes from Northshore Utility District, which also serves parts of Bothell, Kirkland and unincorporated King County. Northshore notifies owners when a test is due — and can shut off water service if it doesn’t get done.

How Kenmore’s backflow program works

The short version, summarized from the utility’s own cross-connection control materials.

Source: Northshore Utility District · verified October 2026 ↗
01

State law requires a certified tester to test every backflow assembly at installation and annually after that.

02

Northshore’s program applies to most multifamily, commercial and industrial properties.

03

Single-family homes are included if they have fire protection, irrigation, a boiler, or a structure three or more stories above the meter.

04

If an assembly isn’t tested when the District requests it, water service may be terminated to protect the public system.
